What we collect

Account information (name, email, institutional affiliation), profile data you provide (bio, title, major, links), activity within the platform (communities joined, events attended, mentor sessions, messages, uploaded materials), and technical logs (IP address, user agent, timestamps) for security and audit purposes.

How we use it

To provide the platform, match you with mentors/communities, protect the service, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information.

Education records (FERPA)

When you use GAIN through a participating institution, records of your advising sessions, feedback, accomplishments, and messages may qualify as “education records” under FERPA (34 CFR Part 99). Access is restricted to institutional officials with a legitimate educational interest. You may request an accounting of disclosures and access to your records by contacting your institution.

Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of your personal information. Contact privacy@example.org (placeholder). Certain records may be retained for compliance with FERPA, SOC 2 audit obligations, or applicable law.

Sub-processors

We share personal information with vendors that help us operate the platform (hosting, database, email delivery, storage, monitoring). A current list will be published at /subprocessors.
